With Higher Standards is a one-night collaboration between Syndicate and Et al. (San Francisco, US), condensing the installation, public opening, and documentation of a traditional group exhibition into a single day.
The exhibition features work from Débora Delmar, Anthony Discenza, Lina Lapelytė, Jaymerson Payton, Maruša Sagadin that takes the context into account – a four-star hotel in the immediate wake of a major art fair. Their interventions include Jaymerson Payton's textured canvas used as a bedspread, Maruša Sagadin's colorful architectural sketches for large-scale sculpture, a selection of potent odors by Anthony Discenza, a film of a choir deep in the Baltic woods by Lina Lapelytė, and Débora Delmar's documentation from a week-long performance with local teenagers featuring a large arrangement of strawberry frappucinos.
This is the second post-Material Art Fair exhibition project at Hotel Casa Blanca. In 2018, Syndicate and Mauve (Vienna, Austria) staged Serious Fraud Office, a group exhibition and performance program, at the same location. A publication, 'With Higher Standards', was soft-published on the night featuring exhibition images and new essays from JL Murtaugh, Jackie Im, Kevin Krueger, and Aaron Harbour.
