Vestibule is an event series, illustrating the model fictions art workers use to bridge gaps in available knowledge.

For the first edition, Belgian writer Sofie Van Loo will present 'What’s IT got to do with Eros?', a talk re-interpreting the recent English translation of 'The Ethics of Ambiguity' ('Pour une morale de l'ambiguïté', Éditions Gallimard, Paris, 1947) and contextualized by theoretical perspectives on the concept of love. Van Loo asks 'Why did Eros become responsible for cosmological balance?', responding with points from visual art, psychoanalysis, poetry, philosophy, and myth. A discussion and barbecue (weather permitting) will follow.

Sofie Van Loo is an art historian, curator, writer, and lecturer based in Brussels. Her recent doctoral dissertation at the KU Leuven proposed how imagination might be re-integrated into contemporary art. She has lectured and curated exhibitions at numerous institutions throughout the world, including SMAK Gent, Kiasma Helsinki, M HKA, Abhay Maskara Mumbai, Galerie Mendes Wood (São Paulo), and SITAC XI in Mexico City. Her recent curatorial projects include 'Stiff Hip Gait' and 'The Catwalk' at Komplot, Brussels, and 'The Casa Nova of Fortuna', Art Brussels Projects (all 2015).
